The Fall of Bushville
Jersey City Police evicted 30 homeless families from the abandoned lot that housed Bushville", a tent city, today. The encampment has faced police harassment since being set up on Tuesday night. Jennifer Cocks, a "Bushville" organizer, says that the families living in the tent city are currently in a "safe place."
An Indymedia reporter was on the scene at the time of the eviction. At 4:10 p.m. nearly a dozen police led a dump truck into one of the poorest neighborhoods in Jersey City and began dismantling the 5-6 makeshift structures comprising Bushville ... About twenty or so people looked on as they waited at a bus stop across the street. "I don't know why they can't just leave them alone," said Elena Gonzalez. "They ain't even using that property."
