Dear Pope John Paul II,

I know this would be a difficult thing for you to do.
but you are the only person on earth who can stop this war.

If you went to Baghdad, and stayed there as a Human Shield (for a few weeks)
It would stop the war.

Sincerely,
JP

i am an anarchist out of Belgium. I carefully chose my words.......
----------------------------------------------------------------

War is coming up. Despite the milions of protestors from all around the world, president Bush is still going to kill the Iraquee people.
Yesterday i saw an advertisement on the internet proclaiming "THERE IS STILL A WAY TO STOP THIS WAR", an advertisement that deserved my attention... It proclaimed that if you, pope Johannes Paulus, would go to Iraq and join the Human Shields mission beeing run by some pacifists, president Bush would have no other option then to stop this war...
The thought has been running through my mind all night long, and in the end, i do think such a mission would be worth it.

First of all would it put president Bush in a VERY uncomfortable situation: attack and risk killing his own spiritual leader or not attack and lose face in public.
Also it just might be the final drop for some american soldiers to just go home.
Nice side-effects would be the church re-winning some credibility from the masses and by so a much greater influence by the church in future peace agociacions. Also, didn't Jesus die for what he believed in and gained the peoples trust and willingness to live a better live? But by all means, it would never come this far... Bush just couldn't publicly give the order to nuke or shoot at any place you're even nearby, and even if he did so, his soldiers wouldn't.

I cincerely hope you strongly consider this proposistion,

Peacefull wishes.

Dear Pope

For one time in your life, do something to stop a war,
you are a man of the church, a man of peace..
become a human shield, show the world the way.
Who knows maybe, you will make more people believe
in the Catholic religion.

Best Wishes & a safe passage

The Pope has 100 times the wisdom and compassion of all the posters herein combined.

What are you talking about Nessie? some obscure guy had some obscure relationship with some other obscure people who were obscurely related to obscure nazis and now has an obscure job in an obscure department of the vatican? whoo - scary!

why can't a former 'slave' as you called him become a Pope? There is talk that an African bishop is being touted as the next one. He rose from poverty unimaginable to most Americans.

Spare us your internet based anti-Catholic conspiracy crap. JP II does more good for the poor in a day than you ever will.

If all of the Americans were to instantly leave Iraq, what would happen?

Be honest...what do you REALLY think would happen?
by Atheist
An anarchist appealing to the Pope to be the agent of social change? Some anarchist. But I shouldn't be surprised. Most anarchists, after all, are just liberals who have become completely detached from reality (although I'll give some credit to that minority of anarchists who recognize the reality of class rule).

Honestly. How gullible can people be. The fucking Pope?!!! The Catholic Church is the epitomy of bigotry, authoritarianism, chauvinist hatred, and elitism. The church has had no equivocation, no hesitation in its condemnation of consensual sexual relations against consenting adults of the same sex, but really had to wrestle with -- and failed to achieve consensus on -- a policy of zero tolerance for child rapists in the clergy. And today, the venal hate-filled Pope directs the church to spread disinformation in countries stricken with AIDS epidemics telling people that condom use spreads AIDS. The Catholic Church is so consumed with its venal right-wing anti-sex crusade that it is deliberating trying to trick people into death!

So of course liberals turn to the Pope as the standard-bearer for "peace" and morality in the world. That figures.

Peace will come to Iraq once enough body bags containing American soldiers have come home, and not until then. That's the stark reality of the politics of the American Fourth Reich. Courageous Vietnamese combatants did the whole world a favor -- at great cost to that embatted nation -- when it stopped the juggernaut of US imperialism dead in its tracks in the jungles of Vietnam. Today, the interests of the toilers of the world hangs in the balance in Iraq. None of us should have any illusions in the goodwill of those attacking Americans, but the threat from bloodthirsty American imperialism to the world is far greater and it must be stopped. And no fucking Pope is going to be the one to do that! Only those courageous enough to take on American soldiers will accomplish that.

Long live the resistance! Spread the intifada everywhere! And no support to liberals who simply seek to mask imperialism with a "compassionate" face, like that of the gay-bashing, woman-hating Pope.

My father is a Catholic. When 9/11 happened, he sent out an email to everone he knows (including me) saying that 9/11 was punishment of America by God for not dealing decisively with all of the homosexuals and "secular humanists" in its midst. That's the true face of Catholicism. Fuck the Catholic Church and all of those who lift it up and promote the Pope as some sort of spokesman for "peace" and morality!
by Patriotic Prophet
I agree with some of what "Atheist" said, and I disagree, too.

The Pope is no hero of mine. And the Church of Rome (what some call teh Roman Catholic Church) is evil.

Nevertheless, it is true that God judges the nations of the world. And the USA is, perhaps, more accountable than many others, because it has had the light of God's word repeatedly shown to it. I am not willing to say the terrorists attacks on 9-11 were God's judgements against permitting the wickedness of homosexuality (it could be abortion, or even the sin of honoring the pope), but let's not kid ourselves: God is the God of wrath, as well as love.

At least we've made some progress understanding you - sounds like you hate your dad, as well as other institutions which could be considered paternalistic.

>He's hardly a well known historical figure, smart guy.

That’s because the powers that be don’t want the real history if the Nazis too widely known. So they don’t teach it in school. But the information is out there for those who choose to find it.

I recommend you start with these books:

In God’s name by David Yallop

God's Banker by Rupert Cornwell

Unholy Trinity: The Vatican, the Nazis, and the Swiss Banks by Mark Aarons, John Loftus

If your attention span is too short for books, try asking Google about Michele Sindona and Paul Marcinkus.

>One of the hits also said the British employed Herman to head the post-war German central bank.

How typical.

As far as evil empires go, the British make the Bolsheviks look like a flash in the pan.

>It doesn't sound to me like he was out there whipping children during the war...

He wasn’t. He was issuing the paychecks of those who did.

>The Catholic Church is the epitomy of bigotry, authoritarianism, chauvinist hatred, and elitism.

Indeed. But it is also the mother of liberation theology, and a major source of charity.

As for the Catholics themselves, that's one fifth of humanity you're talking about. They're an extremely mixed bag. The vast overwhelming majority are righteous, decent, honest, hardworking, charitable, neighborly people. Some are extremely clever. Some are, in fact, among history’s greatest monsters. But others are saintly heroes. They're not all Escrivá, Hudal and Filipovic. Don't forget Cesar Chavez, the Berrigan brothers, and Dorothy Day. Don’t let the crimes of of the few sully the honor of the many. Place the blame only where it belongs.
