July Fourth at Peoples Park

by M. Wingnut
Join the hordes in Peoples Park this July Fourth for an afternoon of flag burning and trouble making.
as some of you may know, july fourth is happening in three days. some of you may also know that, each july fourth, several hundred people gather in peoples park for an afternoon of un-american frivolity.   flag burning, tv smashing, and compost dumping are
a few of the many activities that have happened on past july fourths.  who organizes these events, you might ask?  who brings the tvs, the flags, the freaky costumes and freakier ideas?   YOU DO!  yup, nobody actually organizes july fourth.  certain folks have
shown up with truckloads of tvs, or bike trailers bedecked in red white and blue (soon to be burning) bunting, but they were folks just like you.  they came up with ideas, and dragged their asses out to the park.

so feel free to do the same.  lets have an ad hoc sound system blasting fuck the state battle hymns.  bikes dragging mutilated television corpses through the streets.  compost flying from rooftops, flashing a glimpse of the impossible at the stunned patriotic crowds.   and piles and pile of burning flags.

food not bombs serves around 2:30, the crowds gather around 3, shit usually hits the fan around 3:30.

(one word about smashed tvs.  i like smashing tvs.  i like smashed tvs.  but lets look at the process for a moment.  tvs have all sorts of nastiness inside em.  cadmium and lead, to name two of the worst. when you smash em the nastiness gets in the air.  if the winds
blowing right it wafts over gardens, like the ones twenty feet from the peoples park stage.   so lets keep the tv smashing to a ceremonial few, eh.  freeing ourselves from tv is great, but we don't need to spread lead over a park while doing it.)
