November 3rd Actions Beyond Voting
SF Action Shifted Focus to Healthcare
A new affinity group called Code Blue was formed by members of the Bay
Area Radical Health Collective to participate in the nationwide "Beyond Voting" day of actions on November 3rd. They called for the Healthcare not Warfare Action on November 3rd in San Francisco, which gathered at 9 AM at Justin Herman Plaza, followed by a march through the Tenderloin, with a 12 PM Convergence at the Federal Building. 11/2 Code Blue Statement Public Service Announcement
The march included affinity groups, anti-war coalitions, health care workers, union members, concerned family members, friends, and allies who brought their own messages of "real democracy" to the streets to join them to get out the message that "the time has come to spend scarce public resources on the services and institutions that actually benefit people, and to immediately reverse policies of excessive military spending and corporate greed." They got their message out "through creative street theater, art, and reclaiming our rights of democracy and free expression." Stops on the march included a Tenderloin Self-Help Center and hotels where members of Local 2 are locked out, in part in a struggle over health care benefits, and the Federal Building in SF, where a people's speak-out for democracy was held and people cast ballots for the change that they want to see in the world.
