Abandon Harris campaign leader explains strategy

by Ali Harb
“Our goal is to punish the vice president because of the genocide, to then take the blame for her defeat to send a signal to the political landscape that you should never have ignored us,” Abdel Salam told Al Jazeera.
While Harris has sought to appeal to Michigan voters angered over Washington’s Middle East policies, many people in the battleground state say they cannot cast a ballot for the Democrat.

Hassan Abdel Salam, a co-founder of the Abandon Harris campaign urging voters against supporting the vice president over her pledge to continue arming Israel, says the aim of the group is to ensure that Harris loses the election.

“Our goal is to punish the vice president because of the genocide, to then take the blame for her defeat to send a signal to the political landscape that you should never have ignored us,” Abdel Salam told Al Jazeera.

The group has endorsed Green Party candidate Jill Stein. “She best exemplifies our position against genocide,” Abdel Salam said of Stein.
