FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dublin, Ireland – October 26, 2024 – Human Rights Ambassador Adama Dempster recently joined human rights leaders from across the globe at the Dublin Platform, held from October 23-25, 2024. The event brought together frontline defenders and advocates to celebrate, strategize, and stand in solidarity with those committed to protecting human rights worldwide.

The Dublin Platform convened prominent figures and advocates to address urgent human rights issues, foster global solidarity, and develop collaborative networks essential to the work of defending human rights. This year’s platform included addresses from influential leaders, such as Volker Türk, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights; Mary Lawlor, UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders; Michael O'Flaherty, Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe; Olof Shoog, EU Representative on Human Rights; Alan Glasgow, Executive Director of Frontline Defenders; African human rights actors; and Ireland’s own Seán Fleming, Minister of State in the Department of Foreign Affairs. Their discussions emphasized the importance of collective action to protect the rights and voices of human rights defenders.

Ambassador Dempster expressed deep appreciation for defenders worldwide, recognizing their resilience, dedication, and the sacrifices made in the pursuit of justice and human dignity. “This gathering is a powerful reminder of our shared responsibility to protect human rights and honor those on the frontlines,” Dempster stated.

The Global Gathering of Solidarity highlighted the critical need to advocate for policies supporting human rights defenders and reaffirmed the collective commitment to building a world where human rights are universally respected and upheld.
