Our Global Juneteenth Flag Raising Ceremony take place at Noon all around the world. Juneteenth is our agreed upon date to celebrate the beginning of ending chattel slavery at the final Confederate States of America Port at Galveston Island, Texas
The State of California helped provide leadership towards our modern Juneteenth Movement via Assembly Bill 1749 (Longville) 2002 signed by then Governor Gray Davis.
Juneteenth 2003, California Juneteenth Freedom Day was celebrated by statue the 3rd Saturday of June with an accompanying required Governor Proclamation for Juneteenth.
June 2021, Juneteenth became our newest Federal Holiday, yet in California it is uniquely a quasi-optional holiday. Throughout the State of California the transition from a "Black" backyard BBQ, community Black Music Month celebration and much more... the transition to a fixed US Federal Holiday is a future notion in California.
Our official Juneteenth Flag is the brainchild of activist Ben Haith, at the urging of former National Juneteenth Observance Foundation, President, Dr. Ronald Myers.
Ben Haith created the flag in 1997 with the help of collaborators, and Boston-based illustrator Lisa Jeanne Graf brought our symbol to life.
Our official Juneteenth Flag will one day fly throughout all 58 California counties and in our nearly 100 California cities with 100,000+ residents. Honoring the nearly 2,000 United States Colored Troops who helped preserve the Union and end chattel slavery throughout America.
Monday, June 3, 2024, we strategically plant a small mustard seed, hoisting our official Juneteenth Flag and offering it to the Office of Governor Gavin Newsom for Executive authority align California Juneteenth with the only US Federal Holiday needing special consideration, marking this 175th Year of our California Constitution Convention, marking the transition from Mexican Common Law to English Common Law.
Indeed Freedom is never free... we hold these truths to be self-evident.
