Renewable energy deployment must be sped up on a global scale through just transition pathways to keep global warming within the 1.5°C target.
The Global Energy Transition Tracker by Global Energy Monitor (GEM) is an open database and platform that provides crucial energy data and information for “iconic zones” that are critically important to worldwide energy transition pathways.
The tracker covers symbolic value, government policies and targets, finance, employment, transmission, land availability, as well as social and environmental impacts. It serves as a tool to aid local campaigns and NGOs such as 350.org in advancing the energy transition at regional, national, or subnational levels.
Join this webinar to learn more about the Global Energy Transition Tracker’s criteria, function, and application, as well as campaign aims and materials related to each iconic zone. We will discuss challenges and opportunities in global renewable energy development and the importance of regional initiatives.
Attendees are encouraged to propose additional iconic zones, as we seek to identify more regions with strong renewable energy potential. Our network continues to assess new potential and collaborate with global and regional stakeholders to promote campaigns, promote renewable energy visibility, and support global research collaborations.
Speakers:
Sean Rai-Roche — Policy Advisor, E3G
Cansin Leylim — Associate Director Global Campaigns, 350.org
Cheng Cheng Wu — Project Manager of Global Energy Transition Tracker, GEM
Ludimar Kokama — Treasurer, Coordination of Indigenous Peoples of Manaus and Surrounding Areas (COPIME), and member of COIAB
