It's kinda weird when you think of it in a straight up commonsense way that some people pay other people for mere "right" to use the Earth. At least non-human animals make no lie of it, for they compete hour by hour, year by year with other species for a place in the sun...or in the ocean depths. But humanity, presumably in hope of preserving the peace (and poverty), agrees to allow some folks to buy the right from some people to exclude all the people from a particular part of the planet . . . as though planet Earth isn't everyone's birthright.

What's your justification for such nonsense?

Let's break that nonsense down. There are white folks charging black and brown and what-have-you folk to use the Earth. And visa-versa. And straights charging queer folk to use the Earth. And visa-versa. And gosh darn it, Democrats and other communists charging the righteous to use the Earth. And visa-versa. But most egregious of all in this vacuous-when-it-comes-to-the-economics-of-MotherEarth-meets-Womens-History-Month is that 86% of women pay a male for right of use of, uh huh, Mother Earth. Now ain't that a ridiculous sight!

Come along on a walking tour--25 years and running--that blasts that nonsense to smithereens. It's the story of 11 social movements' intersections with San Francisco, and how each and every one of them was at base the story of alienation from land/location by a dominating demographic.

Hey, it's the end of fractious identity politics when everybody has to pay everybody else for the bit of Earth they want to call theirs. Laugh in Trump's face when he says he gets even a dime for the land under his gilded willy tower. But watch out, it's visa-versa when it comes to you and your little piece of paradise.

In three hours of non-stop thinking you'll walk away with San Francisco's Big Idea in your head. And a challenge to do something about it.
