Real estate, or to be more precise location is the substrate of all social questions. Who gets to be where, and upon what terms? The control of location value is the existential social question non pareil. After all, if you aren't somewhere, you don't exist in the moment; and if you have to pay someone else to be where you are, then you haven't a natural right to be in that place.
Come along on a free walking tour exploring the intersection of real estate and most every social, political, economic, and spiritual question you've ever had. Our practical approach means surveying 11 San Francisco social movements to identify the real estate aspect each shared, from the Mormon hegira to the Black Panthers, from anti-war movement to housing issues today!
What's so remarkable is that neither the self-described conservatives of the GOP nor the self-described progressives and revolutionaries of the DSA offer any accounting for the socialization of location value. Ooops.
