The Suppressed Story of the GI Movement to End the War in Vietnam
Screening of SIR! NO SIR!, an award winning documentary by David Zeiger
This film tells the true story of the powerful anti-war movement which emerged inside the US military during the war in Vietnam. It shows GIs testifying to committing war crimes against the people of Vietnam – and it show GIs and veterans going over to fight against the war and even the US government. It is a powerful antidote to the lies about the war in Vietnam that make heroes of the US military which dropped napalm on children. And it is a crucial message in today’s world when far too many are being sucked into supporting the imperialist US/NATO war in Ukraine, which could trigger nuclear war.
And we are showing it on Fleet Week, Oct 2-9, when the SF Bay will be filled with a show of military might: the thunderous roar of Navy Blue Angels fighter planes will pierce the skies and a "parade" of Navy ships will invade the bay.
Fleet Week is not a harmless spectacle.
Fleet Week is a demonstration of US power aimed at increasing people's allegiance to this blood-soaked government and its crimes against humanity.
When US arms Ukraine with cluster bombs in its proxy war with Russia, this greatly increases the danger of nuclear war. At the same time the US threatens China, heightening the rivalry over which country will be top-dog in the world.
This film is a must-see for all who are sickened by the US government and its war moves and what it has already done to people all over the planet. And for all who want to know the truth about the war in Vietnam and the role of the US not as a force for good, but one of imperialist war, domination, colonialization, forcing people from their countries.
We welcome people who disagree with what we are saying here and challenge them to come and defend what the US did in Vietnam and this genocidal empire.
The statement Allegiance from http://www.revcom.us says:
"NO, to this Republic of the so-called “United States” of America, with its blood soaked red, white, and blue rag, and the system for which it stands—the economic and political system of capitalism-imperialism.
A Republic whose “National Anthem” was written by a slave owner (Oh, oh say can you see... all the sla-a-ver-y...)! ...
YES, TO A RADICALLY DIFFERENT REPUBLIC AND MUCH BETTER SYSTEM—a new socialist republic, a system which will move to abolish and uproot all this madness and give the highest expression to people’s humanity, and a future corresponding to people’s highest aspirations."
