The historic International Hotel building in Richmond, which once housed Black porters who had been barred from staying at a nearby, since-demolished white-only hotel, was tragically destroyed in a three-alarm fire in April 2023.

A historic African-American hotel in Richmond, California were Black Train Porters organized the first ever union, the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters in the early 1920s.
