Hundreds of Teamsters from throughout California and supporters from around country marched and rallied on September 19, 2023 at California's State Capitol in Sacramento to demand that Governor Gavin Newsom sign AB 316 which requires a driver for trucks over 10,000 pounds.

Speakers talked about the dangers of AI which is aimed at eliminating millions of workers for more profits for the corporations. Workers also said the wanted Newsom to sign a bill that would provide unemployment to striking workers in California.
Sean O'Brien, the national president of the Teamsters union who was at the rally and had tried to have a meeting with Newsom but was unable to get an appointment inflaming further anger by the Teamsters. He said that this fight over AB 316 was important nationally and in the UPS contract workers won protection from the introduction of AI.
