Come along on a free walking tour surveying SF social movement history, led by a middle and high school history teacher. We'll tackle housing, race, and wage issues through the lenses of dominance-resistant groups such as the Black Panthers, the Diggers, the Mormons (!), the American Indian Movement, and many others.
Our hypothesis is that after all other fixes, both short-term topical fixes and long-term systemic fixes, there remains the question of who controls the land underneath the abused or oppressed or "othered" demographic. In response to that control of land question, the walk explores with real estate example public policy that would socialize all land values so that no one would have to pay any private party (but instead pay society) for use of the Earth. In short, a robust psychic and economic "belonging" public policy.
