Turkey Earthquake, Corruption & Erdogan, Ballad Of Harry Bridges & ILWU Mumia On WorkWeek
WorkWeek covers the Turkey Earthquake, Corruption & Erdogan & Ballad Of Harry Bridges along with the ILWU Local 10 initiated Labor Community March for Mumia Abu-Jamal on 2/16/23.
WorkWeek 3-2-23 Turkey Earthquake, Corruption & Erdogan and The Ballad Of Harry Bridges
WorkWeek covers the continuing struggle for lives and the over million homeless people in Turkey. Mehmet Bayram reports on the massive corruption and terror by the Erdogan government.
The earthquake in Turkey was widely expected since a similar earthquake took place in 1990 that helped propel the leader Erdogan to the president. As Mehmet Bayram reports the government and cronies looted a tax fund to help prepare for the earthquake and failed to enforce building standards.
Next WorkWeek hears Actors Equity Marie Shell who is the granddaughter of famed ILWU longshore leader Harry Bridges. She and Tony Marcus performed the Woody Guthrie song Ballad For Harry Bridges at ILWU Local 34 at a presentation of a new book on the life of Harry Bridges by SFSU professor Robert Cherney called Harry Bridges, Labor Radical & Labor Legend. It was an anniversary event of the Labor Archives and Reseach Center at San Francisco State University.

WorkWeek hears from speakers at the San Francisco ILWU Local 10 initiated rally
for CWA NABET journalist and revolutionary Mumia Abu-Jamal who is fighting for his
freedom after 40 years in Pennsylvania prison.
On February 16 there was an international day of action initiated by ILWU Local 10 for
the freedom of CWA NABET journalist and revolutionary Mumia Ab-Jamal. He has been
imprisoned for over 40 years and new evidence has been discovered that he was framed
up by the corrupt and racist Philadelphia police force.
A new judge is looking at the new evidence and a ruling will be made this month.
The call for a global day of action was participated in by activists in Durban, Tokyo, Berlin, Oxford and Sao Paulo.
ILWU Local 10 members stopped work at all bay Area ports and marched along the
Embarcadero to Harry Bridges Plaza next to the San Francisco Ferry Building where they held a rally.
