In another railway catastrophe in East Palestine, Ohio, a Norfolk Southern train with dangerous toxins derailed. The company then drained the chemicals into a pit and blew them up telling the town residents that it was now safe and they could go back to their homes without testing them first.
WorkWeek interviews Jerad Cassity who is SMART-TD National Safety Team (NST) Chief of
Safety and had previously worked on Norfolk Southern rail company. He discusses the dire conditions of railway workers who have no sick days off and are under extreme stress and dangerous health and safety conditions.
He also reports on how railroad bosses target workers who make health and safety complaints
and the failure of oversight of the dangerous operating conditions that have been imposed by
railroads who have tremendous power in the Congress and US government.
