Nothing from nothing leaves nothing/
You gotta have something, if you wanna be with me
--Billy Preston
We're coming to get our cheque
--Martin Luther King
The War on Poverty was MLK's mission when he was taken down. He was deep in the planning of the Poor People's Campaign when the bullet struck that propelled his name toward's tomorrow's holiday. At the core of King's economic justice message was land justice: something amounting to the Biblical Jubilee which had inspired the 1865 ministerial demand of Black pastors for 40 acres per family in order to enable genuine economic autonomy.
You're cordially invited to a conversation inspired by 15 minutes of videos of Black voices--MLK, Nina Simone, and Oscar Brown's--speaking to the land question at the heart of social justice for everyone...certainly every resident of the USA.
Not only reparations gone in a generation, but an enduring justice for all. Equality of access to place.
Hosted by k-12 history teacher David Giesen of The Commons SF.
