The Senate finally confirmed Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to a lifetime appointment on the U.S. Supreme Court! This is a joyous and wonderful moment for us as a country and for the history books.
The confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, who will be the first Black woman on the Supreme Court, caps so many years of striving and struggle by Black women persevering in the fight for an equal voice in our society.
Far-right senators’ disrespect of this eminently-qualified nominee – and their abuse of her hearing process – were appalling. They tried to make a mockery of a moment that was deeply important and inspirational to countless millions of Americans – from the thoroughly debunked lie that Judge Jackson was lenient in her sentencing of pedophiles, pushed hardest by Sen. Josh Hawley ... to Sen. Ted Cruz ridiculously waving around children’s books and challenging Judge Jackson on whether babies are racist ... to Sen. Marsha Blackburn trying to get Judge Jackson to deny the basic existence and humanity of trans people.
However, Judge Jackson’s obvious credentials, skills, and charm were on display throughout the process. Her extraordinary dignity and grace outshone the petty, politicized smear campaigns designed to stop her.
So now, we celebrate! We're happy to invite you to a special livestream event tomorrow at 4 PM to celebrate Justice Jackson’s confirmation. (If you’re in the DC area, please join us outside the Supreme Court in person!)
