Join an online discussion about How to ask a different set of questions when responding to Fox News, 48 Hills, The SF Chronicle, Mission News, NIMBYs, YIMBYs, Righties, Lefties on the topic of Housing.
All these folks do not ask, "Why is it that although location values are socially-generated, we leave the preponderance of these values with the private owner (to employ as retirement equity or financial capital), whilst we cavalierly and injuriously tax people for creating goods and services (the earned income and business taxes), and then tax people for buying the goods and services their neighbors have created for their neighbors (the sales tax).
It seems the aforementioned news outlets and points of view are content to excuse landowners like me from returning to community the uplift in community-generated land values even while these news outlets et al wring their hands over what's to be done about housing. Whether, by this omission, the intention is to endorse the privatization of God's green earth or is sheer intellectual fartitude, we are not going to rail, but the result, upon any rigorous reflection, is that divine right and the wealth divide abide.
