US is 13th in Infrastructure, 27th in Education and Healthcare

by People Before Profits
As Pres. Biden embarked on a campaign for improving US infrastructure by raising the corporate tax to 28% (was 53% in 1950s), he provided a ringing indictment of the US private-profit-first economy with a list of the 12 countries that have better infrastructure than the US: 1. Singapore, 2. Netherlands, 3. China, 4. Switzerland, 5. Japan, 6. South Korea, 7. Spain, 8. Germany, 9. France, 10. Austria, 11. United Kingdom, 12. United Arab Emirates. The US sank to 13th in the world from 5th place in 2006 in infrastructure. In other words, the mighty USA, which spends $740 billion on the military to terrorize, murder and destroy countries of the world to maximize the profits of the oil companies and the munitions makers, the only reason the military exists, has not been first in infrastructure since the 1950s when Europe was destroyed by World War 2 and the US had no competition. Infrastructure ranges from bridges, roads, dams, water and sewage systems, to internet connections and availability, electric vehicles and electric charging stations and public transit. It is the backbone of any industrialized society. Our federal highway system was built in the 1950s.

The US is also now 27th in healthcare and education. See https://www.businessinsider.com/us-ranks-27th-for-healthcare-and-education-2018-9 The crisis in both can be heard at the local level as the pleas of the nursing students at City College begged the Board of Supervisors for funding to stop the budget cuts by the City College Board of Trustees, an elected group of Democrats, who want to reduce the number of students from 100,000 to 15,000, transforming City College from a community college to just a junior college. You can hear and watch the whole show of BOS Youth, Young Adults and Families on April 11, 2021 at 6:15 pm and April 12, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. on Comcast cable TV, Channel 78 in San Francisco, https://sfgovtv.org/program-schedule, It was originally broadcast on April 9, 2021 and hopefully will be in the archives soon for everyone to hear at sfgovtv.org. The supervisors at this hearing stated this is a chronic problem at City College and that they would try to give the money set aside from COVID19 emergency needs to City College. They realize that funds should be dedicated to City College, a statement many of the callers highlighted in their public comment, including demanding the Supermajority Democratic Legislature and Democratic Governor tax the rich with the progressive income tax, long time ago. California has 1.1 million millionaires including 147,400 millionaires in San Francisco. IN THE MIDDLE OF A PANDEMIC, City College wants to cut the nursing classes to one class instead of 2 of 50 students each. THEY SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO HAVE AS MANY NURSING CLASSES AS THEY CAN FILL AS THE NEED IS URGENT. One reason the whole country has had to shut down so much to slow the spread of COVID19 is that there are not enough hospital beds AND STAFF in this country.

Meanwhile, we can all look again at the top 12, noting that all except the UAE have socialized medicine although medical care is free to the minority of UAE citizens (the UAE is 87% migrants). We can see that China is No. 3 and Germany is No. 8. China has had socialized medicine since 1949 and Germany has had socialized medicine since 1883. Infrastructure, healthcare and education are all basic to a modern, industrialized society. The war machine belongs in the dustbin of history. The US is first in military hardware production, gun violence and police state terrorism with accompanying pro-police jury verdicts, all signs of a declining, rotten society.
