VALLEJO, Calif., 9/15 — A healthy lifestyle for you and your family is right at your fingertips — and Food Empowerment Project will show you how to tap into it!
Join Food Empowerment Project for the Vallejo Healthy Food Fest, which is going virtual this year with three days of cooking demonstrations, gardening advice, enlightening speakers, and cultural performances — all for free! The online event will take place from noon to 2 p.m. PST on three consecutive Saturdays - Sept. 26th, Oct. 3rd, and Oct. 10th.
At the Vallejo Healthy Food Fest, you’ll learn how to whip up colorful vegan Mexican fare with Chef Evangelina, delicious vegan Filipino food with Vegan Cooking Mom, and mouthwatering vegan Soul food with Chef Chew! You will also understand how to use food as medicine from a presentation and live Q&A session with Dr. Melissa Mondala and hear about Food Empowerment Project’s efforts to boost access to healthy foods in the Vallejo community.
Food Empowerment Project will give away free cookbooks to the first 16 Vallejo residents who join the event on each day, and every participant will receive free vegan starter guides filled with tasty recipes, free stickers, and much more.
Pre-recorded videos will be presented with English captions during the event. Recordings with Spanish captions will be made available to attendees one week after they air online.
lauren Ornelas, founder of Food Empowerment Project says, “Healthy foods are not only delicious but should be accessible for all in Vallejo! Join Food Empowerment Project’s movement for a healthier community, for non-human animals, our people, and planet!”

While this event is free to Vallejo residents, Food Empowerment Project welcomes donations from non-Vallejo residents.
About Food Empowerment Project
Food Empowerment Project (http://www.foodispower.org), founded in 2007, seeks to create a more just and sustainable world by recognizing the power of one’s food choices. In all of its work, Food Empowerment Project seeks specifically to empower those with the fewest resources. Its advocacy areas include fair conditions for farm workers, the availability of healthy foods in communities of color and low-income areas, the protection of animals on farms, and conservation of natural resources. A vegan food justice organization, Food Empowerment Project also works to expose negligent corporations, such as those that push unhealthy foods into low-income areas, those that perpetuate food deserts, and those that sell chocolate derived from the worst forms of child labor. Food Empowerment Project is a registered non-profit 501(c)(3).
