How are Our Schools Helping Young People Become Involved American Citizens? And what more can we do?
Join us to explore these questions in a panel discussion after we screen the PBS documentary film American Creed!
a community conversation
Monday February 10, 2020
6:45 to 9:00pm
Fremont Main Library
Panelists:
• Wali Noori, Social Studies Teacher

• Dr. Eduardo Hernandez, Social Studies Co-Chair

Other Questions We’ll Explore:
• What does being a “citizen” mean? At this time in our history, what does productive, imaginative and engaged citizenship look like?
• What happens to the idea of a shared American creed when fewer of us can climb beyond the socio-economic class we’re born in? When trust in American institutions deteriorates?
• How does exploring who we are and what we stand for as young people do in the Personal Creed Project help us develop active involvement as adult citizens?
• What are some of the challenges and benefits immigrants experience as citizens?
• What more can schools do to prepare students to become actively involved citizens?
