The Osher Marin JCC is pleased to present an exhibit based on the local 2019 Youth Poster Contest. The initiative provides an unprecedented public platform for the thoughts and talents of Marin County young artists. Any local youth, age 12-18, are invited to design a poster that communicates their hopes and concerns about social justice, climate change, immigration, women's rights, firearms regulations, and other issues important to them. Using art, creative ideas and problem-solving skills, youth individually, or in collaboration with others, will develop a poster that informs, challenges and inspires the greater community to take action and make a difference.

Here is a chance for us to collectively learn from the hopes, dreams, fears, and goals of our youth.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
The 2019 Youth Poster Contest attracted 235 incredible posters from 11 high schools and 17 public schools, both public and private, throughout Marin. Submissions included works focused on social justice, women's rights, firearms regulation, immigration, climate change, gender and sexual equality, among others.

10 finalists, 10 winners and the Producer's Award Winner were selected by a judging panel of professional artists. Of particular focus in 2019 was the expansion of outreach to engage students from underserved communities. We held four in-school professional artist-led workshops, a field trip to the Haight Street Art Center and an unprecedented five-session, over 5 days, Social Justice Poster Course at Novato High School.

Prominent environmentalist David Brower once said: "I'm always impressed with what young people can do before older people tell them it's impossible."
