EVENT CANCELLED
Col. Ann Wright will lead a discussion on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla.
For more than five years the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has been warning the world that Gaza will become uninhabitable by 2020 if the blockade does not end.
The U.S. campaign is raising $45,000 as its part of the 12 nation international campaign that will purchase boats and makes educational stops in 10 cities in the Mediterranean before heading to Gaza. All funds raised for the Forum breakfast and all other donations will go to help the Freedom Flotilla.
Since 2008 35 boats have attempted to sail to Gaza, a Palestinian territory under an illegal Israeli blockade since 2007. In 2008 two boats managed to land in Gaza, but since then they have been intercepted by the Israeli military. In 2010 Israeli forces boarded a flotilla ship, the Mavi Marmara, killing 10 people on board including an American citizen & wounding 50.
The 2020 flotilla will sail in May, 2020, the 10th anniversary of the killings. This year the Flotilla will focus on the children of Gaza and their physical and mental health. In the words of Ann Wright: “The children of Gaza deserve the same rights as children in every other country of the world. There are more than a million, more than half the population of Gaza, and they are being deprived of the right to a just future because of the illegal blockade and ongoing military attacks on occupied Gaza by Israel, with the complicity of our country”.
