Michael L. Cantor mocks the artwork of the Yacht Sequoia Cruise Certificates
By Lynda Carson- December 22, 2019
Through the years starting with the Hoover Administration into the Carter Administration, after numerous presidents had some wide ranging discussions with their notable guests aboard the former Presidential Yacht Sequoia that affected millions of people around the world, eventually the Sequoia was sold by former President Jimmy Carter.
During the week of November 16, 2016, Vice Chancellor Sam Glasscock lll ruled in a 21-page opinion that Fe Partners LLC, the new owners of the former Presidential Yacht Sequoia will not owe as much as a penny to the former owners of the Yacht Sequoia following a long Chancery Court battle over the possession of the historic former Presidential Yacht.
Reportedly, “Glasscock ruled that FE Partners LLC, a Washington, DC investment group that specializes in historic ship restorations could purchase the Sequoia at an adjusted price of zero dollars. The decision capped years of legal wrangling over ownership and finally, the purchase price of the ship. The vessel was owned by Sequoia Presidential Yacht Group LLC. Washington Attorney Gary Silversmith was the principal owner and offered the vessel for charters along the Potomac River until it was pulled for repairs.”
In an email dated December 21, 2019, Michael Cantor, the director of FE Partners LLC, an owner of the Yacht Sequoia, made a stunning admission when he openly mocked the artwork on all the Yacht Sequoia Cruise Certificates and wrote the following, “It is interesting that the boat depicted in the certificates is not Sequoia and doesn’t even look anything like Sequoia. Guess they thought it was close enough for government work.”
Through the years different presidents from Hoover to Jimmy Carter would invite their guests aboard the former Presidential Yacht Sequoia, and give them a Yacht Sequoia Cruise Certificate as a gift to remember the event by. The much coveted Yacht Sequoia Cruise Certificates are now a part of history, as much as the Yacht Sequoia itself was, and people are collecting them, including Michael L. Cantor, of FE Partners LLC.

Lynda,
I am very interested in purchasing your certificate and don’t want to disappoint you but believe you are overestimating the value.
Below please find e-bay transaction for the certificate I bought via open auction on e-bay. It was 4 years ago but it went for only $50.00.
This is a link to local news broadcast of Sequoia arriving in Maine. One of the people watching, Robert Crawford, brought his 1970 Cruise Certificate.

Close enough for government work? Really? For this statement to come from Michael Cantor, one of the owners of the Yacht Sequoia, it’s certainly an admission of condescension and derision mocking the cruise certificates and the artists involved in drawing, painting or printing the much coveted cruise certificates through the years that are owned by many veterans and their families that have been involved in various wars for this country.
In a different email further below from Michael Cantor that is dated December 20, 2019, Michael compliments the former disgraced President Richard Nixon for inviting ordinary people who had suffered from the Vietnam war out on the Yacht Sequoia, and he mentions that he is collecting the cruise certificates for his own collection. Additionally, he requests that I let him know if I would like to sell my cruise certificate.
This is only one day before Michael Cantor sent me an an email in which he criticizes the artwork of the cruise certificates and tries to convince me that they are not worth very much in value. Feeling totally shocked that this sort of derision is coming directly from one of the owners of the Yacht Sequoia, I can only wonder what the veterans and their families that have saved and cherished their cruise certificates through the years would think of the owner of the Yacht Sequoia making remarks of condescension and derision towards the much coveted historical Yacht Sequoia Cruise Certificates?

Lynda,
Thank you for sharing the information about Sequoia and also the other articles which I found interesting and liked. In particular, I grew up in Louisville where Ali is from and admired his stand on the Vietnam war.
One nice thing Nixon did was take many ordinary people who had suffered from the Vietnam war out on Sequoia to recognize their sacrifice and then give them those cruise certificates to commemorate the day. This included many wounded warriors and also the families of MIAs and POWs.
I am putting a collection of the certificates together so that when people go to see Sequoia, they will hear the stories of the certificate holders and their sacrifices. Cathy Lundy’s story should be told. If you ever want to sell the certificate please ask me first.
Best,
Mike

According to Zoom Info, FE Partners LLC is an investment firm located in Washington D.C., has 15 employees, and revenues of $3.5 million.
Additionally, according to Reuters, FE Partners LLC is backed by the Timblo family of India. Reportedly, the Timblo family has been accused of stashing “black money” in Switzerland, and people are concerned that the former Presidential Yacht Sequoia may eventually be relocated overseas to India, by the Timblo family investors.
