University of California, Berkeley sociologist emerita, Arlie Russell Hochschild, is the author of nine books concerning the emotional aspect of work, family, and market culture. Her most recent book, Strangers in Their Own Land: Anger and Mourning on the American Right, focuses on the challenges and importance of crossing a cross-partisan “empathy wall”. It was a National Book Award finalist and a New York Times best seller. In 2019, PBS News Hour Report, recorded a revisit with Louisianans she interviewed for her book. She’s twice been invited to speak to Democratic Members of Congress. Her work appears in seventeen languages.
