Juan Lopez, Juana Martinez, Juana Esquivel and Reynaldo Ramos from Honduras are in the Bay Area to inform the public of the repression they and others in their country face in trying to defend their rivers from mining companies that are destroying the resources communities near in the Mountain Park of Botaderos in Tocoa, need to survive. There are 31 people so far charged with crimes. They face years in jail if their appeals to drop prosecution fail. Shining a light on these injustices here in the U.S. is an important way of defending the Water Protectors and standing in solidarity with the Honduran people in their efforts to wrest justice from a corrupt, U.S. backed regime. Several of these Water Protectors will speak at Forum and later be introduced at the Service following the morning Forum.
