NATIONAL DAY of PROTEST: INHUMANE IMPRISONMENT of ASYLUM SEEKERS
When: Tuesday, July 2 @ noon (check the exact time of your chosen event location)
Where: Protests around San Francisco Bay Area, throughout California, and nationwide
Children denied soap and toothbrushes, crowded into unsafe conditions. Separated from their families, subject to cruel treatment that leads to lasting traumas. And some dying in custody—or dying with parents as they cross the Rio Grande. The images of children suffering in U.S. detention camps have outraged us all.
Horrifically, these conditions aren't an accident. They are the byproduct of an intentional strategy by the Trump administration to terrorize immigrant communities and criminalize immigration—from imprisoning children in inhumane conditions, to threatening widespread raids to break up families, to covering up reports of immigrants dying in U.S. custody and abuses by ICE and CBP agents.
We must show members of Congress and other elected officials that Americans of all walks of life won't stand for the Trump administration's attacks on immigrants and the horrific conditions in child detention camps—and we won't tolerate Congress letting these brutal detentions, deportations, and horrific conditions continue.
Turn outrage into action. Join in demanding that the Trump administration close the camps immediately, free the children, reunite them with their families, and stop this war on immigrants.
This Tuesday, July 2, while members of Congress are home for the Fourth of July holiday, we will gather at 12 p.m. noon local time at their local offices and other locations in protest.
Our demands:
--Close the Camps
--Not One Dollar for Family Detention and Deportation
--Bear Witness and Reunite Families
It’s going to take all of us to #CloseTheCamps.
PLEASE NOTE: All actions that are sponsored or organized are intended to be nonviolent and peaceful. All participants are to act lawfully at all times and to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.
ORGANIZERS: MoveOn.org, Families Belong Together, the American Friends Service Committee, and United We Dream
