Time:

-
10:00 PM
Event Type:
Class/Workshop
Organizer/Author:
Extinction Rebellion
Location Details:
Canticle Farm 1972 36th Ave, Oakland
Skill-it, an Extinction Rebellion affinity group, is throwing a series of gatherings were people can learn, share, and practice skills and techniques useful for environmental action, community resilience, and personal resilience/actualization.
Please bring:
Food and/or drink that will feed at least three people. (Preparing it yourself is recommended, but not necessary. Please know what ingredients went into what you bring so those beings may be acknowledged. )
A fabric item (clothing, backpack, etc.) in need of mending.
This is an alcohol and drug free event.
Our first topics will be:
Food Blessing: The Web of Connection—Thea Ruoho
Bring your potluck items for a shared meal, where we will be naming and thanking all the beings that we are taking within us, and remembering that we, too, will be returning to the web in this way. The process begins by knowing what beings are part of your dish, from the fields of grain to the chickens that laid the eggs, to the bees that made the honey.
Canvassing — Shamus Thornton
Canvassing is an essential part of what will be needed to grow the climate and environmental justice movement beyond its existing activist base. Long time organizer Shamus Thornton will share techniques and exercises to both feel more comfortable and confident while canvassing and put those you are communicating with at ease
Mending Circle — Erin Rose Conner
Bring your jeans with holes, that coat with the opened seam, the favorite backpack that is falling apart. Erin has many years of experience figuring out how to extend the lives of well loved fabric and leather items and will be bringing a selection of scraps and tools to show you how to figure out the best repair for your item.
If you are interested in sharing a skill or technique at a future event, we'd love to work with you! You can sign up to do that here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/H5WDYKN
