The film, directed by Dr. Elizabeth Castle, follows Madonna Thunder Hawk and her daughter, Marcella Gilbert, through decades of indigenous activism: From the American Indian Movement in the 1970s, to the work to protect the Black Hills and Indian Child Welfare Act, to the struggle — which so many of you aided — against the Dakota Access pipeline in 2016.
Screening of documentary film Warrior Women, followed by a Q&A session with me and director Elizabeth Castle, Ph.D.
Cost: Suggested donation of $15 for general public, $5 for students with ID.
In 2018, Warrior Women won “Best Documentary” at the Los Angeles SKINS Fest, California’s American Indian & Indigenous Film Festival, and the San Francisco American Indian Film Festival. We’re honored to tour with this film — which was decades in the making — and we love the energy that people like you bring to our screenings.
Proceeds at the door will go to support the Warrior Women team and Madonna's work keeping grandmothers involved in action on Cheyenne River Nation in South Dakota.
