46th Birthday of Landmark Decision as Women Address Access to Health Services
The community is invited to join reproductive rights activists in celebrating the passage of Roe v. Wade 46 years ago. At the same time the meeting will address continuing concerns about women's access to health care. A large birthday cake decorated with "Happy Birthday Roe v. Wade" will be served .
Cake and coffee served from 11:30 am to noon.
The program begins promptly at noon with audience participation political theater featuring US Supreme Court Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Ruth Bader Ginsberg portrayed by the Raging Grannies. Speaker Dr. Emily Guh, of Asian Health Services in Oakland, will give a talk about reproductive justice, and how attacks on women’s health services especially affect immigrant and minority women nation-wide. Dr. Sophia Yen, Associate Professor of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine at Stanford Hospital will give an update on the latest developments in reproductive health.
At about 1pm, following the indoor event, participants will rally in front of the Los Altos Civic Center. Placards and a large banner "Happy Birthday Roe v. Wade" will draw attention on busy San Antonio Rd. to the urgent need to protect women's reproductive rights. We will be on the sidewalk for about 15 min.
Entire event is 1 hour 45 minutes, come for all or part.
The program is presented by the Los Altos/Mountain View branch of the American Association of University Women, and co-sponsored by Palo Alto AAUW, Sunnyvale-Cupertino AAUW, the Mtn. View – Los Altos League of Women Voters, Palo Alto League of Women Voters, and Planned Parenthood Mar Monte.
$5 donation requested, no one turned away for lack of funds.
