From JAPAN- Japan is pulling out of the International Whaling Commission and will resume commercial whaling next July. Greenpeace condemned the Japanese decision to start harvesting whales again when the oceans are facing multiple threats- Australia also rejected the change. 3 former top executives of Tokyo Electric Power Company are facing 5 year prison terms for negligence leading to deaths at the Fukushima nuclear power plant.
From CUBA- A second asylum seeking Guatemalan child has died while detained in the custody of US Customs services in New Mexico. The Trump administration has announced a major rollback of the Clean Water Act, which could lead to oil development and direct pollution of formerly protected waterways. A former Blackwater contractor has been found guilty of first degree murder in a massacre of civilians in Iraq in 2007. Then a Viewpoint on Mexican President Obrador who has reaffirmed respect for the government of Venezuela and its president Maduro- this is despite US demands that Latin America cut off diplomatic relations with Caracas.
From RUSSIA- Afshin Rattansi spoke with journalist John Pilger about the events of 2018. Pilger criticizes journalists who are acquiescing to a series of lies put forward by the US and British government about Russia, China, and the Middle East. He accuses the journalists of being spokespeople for the governments rather than investigating their claims. They discuss the discrediting of Julian Assange, John Bolton, and the eulogies for George H W Bush. Also the passing of historian William Blum whose books questioned the US role in military interventions around the globe.

"For more than 70 years, the United States convinced much of the world that it somehow needed the United States to save it from communist darkness. "Just buy our weapons," said Washington, "let our military and our corporations roam freely across your land, and give us veto power over who your leaders will be, and we'll protect you."
