Democrat and former USDA Secretary Mike Espy is in a runoff on November 27 for the position of senator from Mississippi. Before holding that position he represented Mississippi's second congressional district from 1987 to 1993.

He received his law degree from Santa Clara University. "Espy worked at Central Mississippi Legal Services between 1978 and 1980, was later the Assistant Secretary of State to Mississippi Legal Services. From 1980 to 1984, Espy was the Assistant Secretary of the State to the Public Lands Division. He was an Assistant State Attorney General from 1984 to 1985." * In 1986 Espy beat two-term Republican Webb Franklin and became the first African-American representing Mississippi in Congress since Reconstruction He was reelected three times. In 1993 he cosponsored the Family and Medical Leave bill. Espy in private practice has had numerous cases including the Pigford lawsuit. He worked with a black farmers advocacy group, the National Black Farmers Association, to represent those farmers.

Cattle rancher Sen. Hyde-Smith, Republican, was appointed to the US Senate when Thad Cochran resigned April 1st. Hyde-Smith voted against net neutrality and for huge media company censorship of internet content. While Espy was a national secretary of agriculture. Hyde-Smith was a state commissioner of agriculture. She used that position to promote the animal agony, human disease, climate extremes engendering and energy waste effects of ranching.

Senator Hyde-Smith raises cattle for slaughter on her Brookhaven, Mississippi, ranch 60 miles south of Jackson. She also profiteers from Lincoln Cty Livestock, which holds cattle auctions, reminding of the wicked witch coming out to see if Hansel & Gretel are fat enough to be murdered.

Hyde-Smith received a 0 rating from the Humane Soc of the US. She sided with a cattle ranching association and against animals in a vote in Congress.

She has been involved in 2 scandals lately. She recently said "There's a lot of liberal folks in those other schools who that maybe we don't want to vote. Maybe we want to make it just a little more difficult & I think that's a great idea."

During a Tupelo campaign stop on November 2nd she said: "If I was invited to a public hanging, I would be on the front row." Some interpreted that as her dogwhistle supporting lynching. Mississippi has a bloody history of lynching.

Hyde-Smith voted in her 7 months on Capitol Hill 100% of the time with Trump. She opposes regulations on guns and supports the Mississippi weapons industry.

Hyde-Smith refused to debate Espy before the midterms but there will be a debate in November. In the midterm elections each received 41% of the vote.
