Beware of Greg Larson
Never in my 48 (forty eight) years of voting in Santa Cruz have I watched a more desperate candidate than Greg Larson. I’ve never seen more money spent by an individual than Greg Larson, either. We need to ask why he has such desire, drive and — and such questionable financial backing. That includes every major developer, and of course the Boardwalk, franchises, the real estate conglomerate…think for a second what that means for Santa Cruz’s future.
Larson has a long history in dealing, controlling, and manipulating city governments. He’ll apply that manipulation around our Council and staff, making even Cynthia Mathews decades-long backstage maneuvers look like Mary Poppins stuff. Larson lied about getting Democratic endorsements, he treated a woman Council candidate crudely and unfairly…what’s really behind Greg Larson’s driving campaign? Can we afford to find out? Think at least twice before voting next week or whenever.
A VERY SAD GREG LARSON INCIDENT. Monday morning (10/15) I received this email…
“This past Sunday evening (10/14) after the filming wrapped at the local CTV community television headquarters for “Meet The Candidates,” Santa Cruz City Council Candidate Greg Larson singled fellow candidate Ashley Scontriano out for questioning regarding what could be done to put a stop to negative publicity. The conversation – which took place in a dark parking lot – began innocently with shared experiences of typical campaigning growing pains, but took an accusatory left turn when Larson told Scontriano to manage her “core” campaign supporters and prevent them from highlighting facts Larson felt undermined his efforts as a viable candidate. Scontriano felt cornered and blindsided by the false accusations. However, it was the next statement that had Scontriano floored by the gravity of Larson’s direct threat: “Depending upon who gets elected…If you do, I will want to continue to work with you on policy. But if I get elected, I won’t want to work with you and I will make it very hard for you to get anything done.”
Another female candidate who was present for the incident was so concerned for Scontriano’s safety she stayed around to make sure that Scontriano made it to her car safely. Going forward, Scontriano will make sure to have multiple supporters accompany her to her car after forums.
In a political climate that is already wrought with polarizing topics and alienating opinions, it is disheartening that a male candidate would use his power and control to intimidate a female candidate in this day and age”.
First I established the identity of the sender, and then I asked Ashley Scontriano if it was true. She replied…
“Hello Bruce,
All of it is true and another female candidate witnessed the whole thing.
Thank you,
Ashley Scontriano”
Now voters in Santa Cruz need to decide if that’s the kind of behavior we want to represent our city.

Greg's flush with dough and endorsements 'cause he's campaigned to be more of a bureaucrat than anyone before him. Expect nothing. Platitudes on steroids. Photo-op "Leadership."
Greg Larson led a TBSC charge to run a Vietnamese single mother who owned the gas station on Walnut/Mission out of business! He misused his influence and knowledge of city/fire code rules to cut into her business with the intent to slander her and make her gas station lose money.
He harassed her employees by trespassing on to the property yelling/disrupting her employees and herself who were no part of the electronic/bike stealing done by two fired, prosecuted employees.
He lobbied the DA to prosecute her for their crimes through she was not involved.
He has some issues with single mothers because of a custody fight with a former wife, so he is a fanatic pro-father rights. He has been documented/report to FBI for stalking/harassing single mothers who live in RV's too.
I encouraged her to get an attorney to sue him and the city for misuse of authority to single her and discriminate against her. First for being Asian, a single mother and for living out town from her business.
All of the above has been documented by screen shots and PDFs of his public postings.

Larson exited his position as Los Gatos Town Manager in a very questionable manner, as described in a Mercury News article from 2015:
Larson, 60, is on his way out as town manager, and White, 75, is on his way in as an interim manager. The well-heeled town is paying both of them full salaries at the same time — and may do so for seven months.
You heard me right. The town is giving each of them a salary worth more than $200,000 per year, plus generous benefits, thank you very much. In Los Gatos, it’s not enough to have one town manager on the payroll. It’s better to have two at the trough. The heir and a spare.
Wonder why? Good luck finding out. The town council has passed language that stymies public questioning, limiting comment to a saccharine news release and referring questions to the town’s human resources director, who is basically empowered to release only name, rank and service number.

When the owners were on the verge of filing for a business license in mid-June, they met with police Chief Scott Seaman. He emailed Town Manager Greg Larson that a gun store would be a “value to the community” by catering to sports enthusiasts. However, he also noted “the likelihood of community resistance to the idea of a ‘gun shop.’ ” Templar received its business license about three days later.
But the council was not informed until about 74 days later, at the end of August. Even then, the item was buried in a list of “Items of Interest” after “Downtown Lights” and “Solid Waste Contract.”

Hundreds of people turned out for a public hearing Monday night over gun sales at Templar Sports.
Before the hearing, opponents held a candlelight vigil at the civic center, with Templar supporters gathered on the other side of the civic center to hand out bright orange cards showing their support.
“The opening of Templar Sports, a gun shop, has created a huge division in our town,” Los Gatos resident Cynthia Schneider, 27, said. “It has brought fear and shame to our community. Most alarming, many of our children, teachers and principals are extremely distressed about this decision and are too afraid to be heard.”
Schneider called for an “independent investigation” into the permitting process for Templar and asked that a moratorium on its gun sales be instituted until an investigation is completed.

Some residents in Los Gatos, in light of the Sandy Hook killings, have criticized Larson, police Chief Scott R. Seamon and other city personnel for awarding Templar a business license without public hearings or permits required of businesses that do not sell firearms.
