Maya Cruz from the Chicago Revolution Club speaks on her case and what's at stake: 7 years in prison for a SILENT protest in support of undocumented immigrants?! Meanwhile the Trump/Pence regime escalates their fascist attacks on immigrants.
This is an OUTRAGE-all charges must be dropped now!
On March 1, 2018, Maya with three other Revolution Club members, walked into the University of Chicago student center and held up sheets of paper announcing 11 minutes of silence for 11 million undocumented immigrants and stood silently for 11 minutes. As she was leaving the University of Chicago police attacked her, grabbing her roughly, arrested her, dragged her down the stairs and out of the building, then charged HER with two felony counts of assault on a police officer!
The attack on Maya is part of a nationwide clamp down on the Revolution Club. In LA, 11 members of Refuse Fascism and the Revolution Club have been criminally charged for engaging in and/or supporting non-violent civil disobedience and political protests which took place from September 2017 through March 2018, including holding banners across the length of the Los Angeles 101 Freeway, with one stating "Trump/Pence Must Go!" and several protests at UCLA campus, including a disruption of Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin.
