State prosecutor Leif Dautch announced the endorsement of California Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones in his campaign for District Attorney of San Francisco. As an experienced prosecutor and former Commission President, Dautch is running a strong grassroots campaign focused on homelessness, quality of life issues, and environmental justice.

Commissioner Jones said of Dautch: “As an attorney, leader of a law enforcement
agency, and consumer advocate myself, I’ve been impressed by Leif’s legal acumen, his
prosecutorial experience, and his commitment to using the law to do good in the world. He is the right person to lead the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office.”

Dautch is “honored to earn the early endorsement of a proven leader like Commissioner Jones who, like me, is committed to reforming the criminal justice system in a way that protects the public while addressing the underlying root causes of crime.”

Dautch is a California native who graduated with honors from Yale College and Harvard Law School. After clerking on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco, he joined the California Department of Justice, working as a prosecutor for Attorneys General Kamala Harris and Xavier Becerra. In six years as a Deputy Attorney General, Dautch has prosecuted more than 400 criminal cases in state and federal court - from trials to arguments before the California Supreme Court. He has also testified before the California State Assembly and State Senate on issues ranging from human trafficking to environmental protection.

In 2016, Mayor Ed Lee appointed Dautch to the San Francisco Juvenile Probation Commission, where he was elected Commission President by his peers. He also serves as the Vice Chair of the California State Bar’s Criminal Law Executive Committee, and has written for the San Francisco Chronicle and Examiner on the auto burglary epidemic and environmental contamination in the Hunters Point Shipyard.

Momentum is building behind Dautch’s DA campaign, with strong fundraising and endorsements from more than 60 elected officials, commissioners, and community leaders. Readers can learn more at https://leif2019.com.
