In spite of community outcry and demand that Louden Nelson bathrooms be unlocked and opened to the public by all of the City Council candidates (with the exception of Richelle Niroyan), the bathrooms are still barred to anyone not "in a program" at Louden Nelson.
This impacts the broader community, particularly elderly, disabled, and unhoused people. It negates a longstanding tradition of inclusive community service at Louden Nelson. Supervisor Iseth Rae closed the bathrooms last March; City Manager Martin Bernal reaffirmed it last July. It was done without any community discussion, city council process, health impact assessment, nor outreach to the vulnerable groups affected.
Food, music, and speakers will come together in the courtyard outside City Council meeting. Bring appropriate costumes and props (toilet paper, Depends, signs, doggie poop bags, etc.)--whatever feels appropriate.
