the time is ripe for KPFA to show its true colors, envisioned by founder Lew Hill, as a defender of free speech. On Saturday, September 15, at 11:00 at the North Berkeley Senior Center 1901 Hearst Ave., the KPFA Local Station Board [LSB] will be asked to vote for a resolution in support of Wikileaks' founder Julian Assange. The resolution, originally submitted to the LSB on August 18 by staff representative LSB member Steve Zeltzer, is signed by original whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg and Consortium News editor-in-chief Joe Lauria, among others.
The LSB is infamous for shenanigans to avoid difficult subjects. Since the resolution was introduced at the LSB meeting last month, it should be old business on the agenda, and be brought for an up or down vote on Saturday. People concerned with the future of Assange, still holed up in the Ecuadorian embassy for over six years, the future of free speech, and the future of our beloved radio station are encouraged to attend. What would be the basis for refusing to take a stand in support of Assange?
The KPFA Local Station Board will meet on Saturday September 15, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the North Berkeley Senior Citizens Center 1901 Hearst Ave. Berkeley. Free speech radio must defend Assange, Wilileaks and access to information.
