Protest Bank of Montreal's Support for Coal
Date:
Wednesday, September 12, 2018
Time:
12:00 PM
-
1:30 PM
Event Type:
Protest
Organizer/Author:
Margaret Rossoff for No Coal in Oakland
Location Details:
Outside Marriott Marquis Hotel, 780 Mission Street (at 4th), San Francisco
Informational event with leafleting, street theater, music outside the meeting of Principles for Responsible Investment.
The Bank of Montreal (which claims to practice socially responsible financing) has been instrumental in attempting to raise money to finance the proposed coal terminal on the Oakland waterfront. They lobbied to get $50 million from the state of Utah and proposed to raise $200 million from pension funds, perhaps without disclosing that coal is involved.
During the meeting of Principles for Responsible Investment, which a bank representative is attending, we want to expose the bank's role and warn pension funds and other investors that they may be targeted for this toxic and risky investment. If there is no funding there will be no coal terminal!
RSVPs are welcome at https://tinyurl.com/demoBMO
