Gay Day does not need any advertising in San Francisco. It is now 48 years old this year, and at least since 2000, has become a commercial scene for the corporations with huge corporate floats to promote the private profit system, always anti-liberation of anyone by definition. "We are a Movement Not A Market" was the slogan I remember when the commercialization started. A good article on the commercialization is at https://www.alternet.org/story/13349/be_yourself_..._resist_commercialization_of_gay_pride
In my memory (which goes back 58 years), the Gay Pride March reached an audience in the hundreds of thousands by 1990, and is now easily over 1 million for the 2-day fair at the Civic Center. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Francisco_Pride
The gay liberation struggle has always been a political football used by the Democrats to get votes in San Francisco, and more recently, in the 2012 presidential election when Obama finally decided to change his position to support gay marriage, which now exists nationwide since 2015. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_same-sex_marriage_in_the_United_States
Today, this 48 year old parade, which shuts down most of the City east of Van Ness for most of the last Sunday in June from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., is an ad for big business. Bus service north of Market starts at 12 noon, but it is unknown what bus is allowed to cross Market or where. The realities of poverty, homelessness and police terror are not addressed by this parade and must be if the spirit of Harvey Milk, a great unifier of all political struggles, is to live.
