Boycott at East Bay Coffee Co. Over Illegal Firings and Sexual Harassment, Protest Planned
Supporters of workers of the East Bay Coffee Co. will be holding a protest in front of the business at 2529 San Pablo Ave on Saturday June 2, from 11:30 AM until 1pm and Sunday June 3, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
A worker was fired from the company last week after refusing to serve a customer who had groped and verbally harassed a co-worker. The co-worker had been told to hide in the kitchen if she was uncomfortable with the harassment. Community members are being advised to boycott the establishment until the worker is reinstated, and until a formal apology is issued by management.
At the protest, statements will be read supporting the struggles of the workers at the establishment, and in support of larger resistance against related patriarchal abuse, including the nationwide #meToo movement.
