JOIN HANDS with Indivisible OC 48, Oceana, Surfrider Foundation, Sierra Club, Orange County Coastkeeper, Project O, and NRDC - Los Angeles! WE NEED YOU to help us show strong, unified opposition to new offshore oil and gas drilling off the California Coastline!
Background: On Jan 4, 2018 the Trump Administration released a draft plan that proposes opening up almost the entire U.S. coast to oil and gas drilling. The proposal, outlined by Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, would open up areas of the California coast that have been off-limits for over two decades. This radical offshore drilling free-for-all is a clear example of politics over people, ignoring widespread local and state opposition... and is a recipe for disaster.
The Trump administration's proposal to expand offshore oil development is being met with unyielding opposition in California, where drilling in coastal waters has been deeply unpopular since a devastating 1969 spill off the coast of Santa Barbara which spewed more than 3 million gallons of oil into some of the nation's most sensitive coastal habitat, killing thousands of seabirds and other marine life and spurring the modern environmental movement.
The Bureau Of Ocean & Energy Management (BOEM) has scheduled ONLY ONE PUBLIC HEARING on February 8 in Sacramento, far away from the coastline where the general public and our vital CA coastal economy would be affected by the impacts of offshore oil drilling.
One Public Hearing is simply unacceptable, and the California people deserve the right to be heard.
JOIN US in opposing The Trump Administration's Executive Order and send a clear message to Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, Californians DO NOT want new offshore oil and gas drilling!
