Israel/Palestine vs Landlordism

Date:
Tuesday, October 31, 2017
Time:
5:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Event Type:
Teach-In
Organizer/Author:
David Giesen
Location Details:
1266 Valencia Street
San Francisco
(the curbside speakers' podiums)

Come hear notorious walking tour guide David Giesen bring the heat to Valencia. Building on his "15 column inches of fame" in the November issue of San Francisco magazine (see the link below), Giesen goes guided missile on landlordism in this edition of his "conversation with the street" (what others call his "calle and response" style of political action).

In this episode, Giesen challenges American do-gooders to stand in alliance with those people of Palestine and Israel whose humanity has been oppressed by those social mores and laws which require them to pay land rent to private landlords. Americans who pay land rent to private interests are similarly oppressed. Where the people as a whole are portrayed as sovereign, land rent belongs to the people as a whole, not to interloping sovereign would-bes.

Indeed, it is land rent, paid by all occupants of the land, that properly funds the social programs of a nation or people. And, needless to say, this revenue ought to be allocated fairly, meaning in a fashion tantamount to democratic republicanism.

Come discuss how San Francisco's rent-racked, displaced, evicted, time-strapped citizenry find common cause with the oppressed in Palestine and Israel precisely over the question of, "To whom does the land rent we pay ultimately go?"
