David Duke campaign contributor Roger Grigsby reopens O’mei restaurant

As recent as August 17, 2017, in an article on Indybay, it was first reported that Roger Grigsby of Santa Cruz is a campaign contributor to David Duke’s failed 2016 Senate campaign. The story resulted in a boycott of the O’mei restaurant owned by Grigsby in Santa Cruz, with employees quitting their jobs, and the closure of the restaurant occurring a few days after the Indybay article outed Grigsby as a supporter of David Duke. Indybay is a community news site.
Reportedly last Friday in This Small Planet, during the past week there has been an “Open” sign at the O’mei restaurant in Santa Cruz, in addition to a “Now Hiring” sign.
A day later, the Mercury News reported that the O’mei restaurant has reopened after being closed by Grigsby after a community boycott of his restaurant occurred, when it was reported that Grigsby donated $500 to David Duke’s failed Senate campaign of 2016.
According to the Mercury News, 68 year old Grigsby, is in the process of transferring ownership of the O’mei restaurant to longtime head chef and manager Karl Cook.
The article did not mention how much that Grigsby would be making off of the restaurant after ownership is transferred to Karl Cook. However, Grigsby was quoted as saying, “Choosing Cook as his successor was a longtime plan, brought to a head “since the shit birds have sort of cast a pallor over my name due to their third-hand information about David Duke.”
After Grigsby passes the torch to Karl Cook, the O’mei restaurant may become a safe haven for white supremacists, neo-Nazis, and members of the Ku Klux Klan.
According to wikipedia, David Ernest Duke (born July 1, 1950) is an American white nationalist, politician, antisemitic conspiracy theorist, Holocaust denier, convicted felon, and former Imperial Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan.
The recent violent white supremacist rally that David Duke attended in Charlottesville, has resulted in blood in the streets of Charlottesville, and the death of Heather Heyer when she was run down by an alleged Nazi sympathizer while she was protesting against the KKK, neo-Nazis, and white supremacists. Reportedly, 19 others were injured when the Nazi sympathizer plowed into a crowd of peaceful demonstrators.
Regarding many of the lynchings that the Ku Klux Klan were involved in, according to Wikipedia the political message promoted white supremacy, and black powerlessness.
Reportedly, Grigsby is a David Duke supporter because; “He is defending the civil rights of European-Americans, whites, defending them from attacks against them.”
Some of the businesses connected to those who have been outed recently for making campaign contributions to David Duke’s failed 2016 Senate campaign, including Roger Grigsby, owner of O’mei restaurant in Santa Cruz, and Julius De Roma, owner of Clubhouse Jager in Minneapolis, did not fare too well according to a recent report by Newsweek.
It was on August 26, 2017, that an Indybay article came out that was the first to expose some campaign contributors to David Duke in Minneapolis, Massachusetts and beyond, including Julius De Roma. The story also resulted in a boycott of Club Jager, owned by Julius De Roma, with employees quitting their jobs, and the closure of the club by the employees.
For a little bit more about Roger Grigsby. According to public records with the County of Santa Cruz, Grigsby presently owes $2,986.16 in taxes on his property at 402 Plateau Ave in Santa Cruz. Zillow’s estimate for 402 Plateau Ave, Santa Cruz, is $1,185,159.

While Grigsby's contribution to Duke's campaign may be an odious act, and certainly not naive, I will return to the restaurant because I like the food, the service and ambiance. Damning the new owner while having no evidence of his complicity is ignorant.
Furthermore, I would take this a step further.
Shall we have a Soviet era investigation and purge of all local business owners whose viewpoints we dislike? Shall we act on presumptions?
Should O mei's, which appeared to have a broad spectrum of ethnicities working there prior to its closure there be singled out, if they continue to honor a commitment to good food and no political agenda?
The next time you put gas in your car, shop at a grocery store, attend classes in local schools and colleges; first perform exhaustive research on each businesses' owners and boards of directors' political persuasions.
Good luck.
