No-show Town Hall for Congresswoman Pelosi

Date:
Thursday, August 31, 2017
Time:
6:45 PM - 7:45 PM
Event Type:
Panel Discussion
Organizer/Author:
Julia Spencer, Erick Willemse
Location Details:
Park Branch Libaray
1833 Page St.
San Francisco, CA 94117

As members of Congress return to their home districts this month, we have an opportunity to remind our representatives whose interests they work for: ours. Our congressional representative, Nancy Pelosi, fails to hold town hall meetings to listen to her constituents. Global Zero welcomes you to our own town hall to voice our concerns and draw awareness to issues that matter: protecting our environment, expanding and improving access to healthcare, improving education, and pushing for immigrant rights.

We have extended an invite to Rep. Pelosi and are still waiting for her response. This event will still take place with or without her attendance.

The litmus test for all Congresspeople must be HR676, the improved, expanded Medicare for All bill that now has 117 endorsers. NANCY PELOSI is still not an endorser, although San Francisco is certainly a big supporter of Medicare for All. See https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/676/cosponsors?q=%7B%22cosponsor-state%22%3A%22California%22%7D

Therefore, she does not represent us in any way. So long as San Franciscans engage in robot voting for a staunchly pro-war, pro-Israel, anti-Medicare for All representative, they are lying when they say she is better than a Republican because she takes the exact same positions on those issues as the Republicans.

We now have a half way decent Social Security Expansion Bill, HR 1902, with 156 sponsors, and again, as with Medicare for All, HR 676, San Francisco Rep Nancy Pelosi is not on the list. See For more on HR 1902, and the list of co-sponsors, see: https://larson.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/larson-introduces-social-security-proposal-cut-taxes-seniors-increase-0

San Francisco millionaire Democrat Rep. Nancy Pelosi told the Washington Post in May 2017 that she thinks abortion is a fading issue and should not be a litmus test issue for the Democratic Party. This angered enough women and abortion providers to set up a website with a letter to Nancy Pelosi from abortion recipients and their supporters to change her tune at https://letter.abortionfunds.org/ and to publish this letter as a full page ad in the July 12, 2017 San Francisco Examiner.

Nancy Pelosi’s net worth is around $120 million. See https://www.celebritynetworth.com/richest-politicians/democrats/nancy-pelosi-net-worth/
She has been representing San Francisco since 1987 and is now 77 years old. She is Roman Catholic and claims to be pro-choice, which is something short of the law, which is pro-abortion.

She voted for sanctions against North Korea, Russian and Iran. The House vote was 419 to 3, with 3 Republicans voting no. SANCTIONS ARE AN ACT OF WAR. The House vote on HR 3364, Roll Call 413, may be seen at

The outcry against the latest ravings of the current illegal, unfit president were protested by an August 10, 2017 letter to Secretary of State Tillerson, signed by over 60 Congresspeople. See the press release on Rep. John Conyers’ website at https://conyers.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/letter-members-congress-reject-trump-statements-north-korea and the letter linked to this press release at https://conyers.house.gov/sites/conyers.house.gov/files/documents/Members%20of%20Congress%20letter%20to%20Tillerson%20081017_0.pdf
San Francisco’s Rep. Nancy Pelosi did not sign this letter.
