Rally to Defend Oakland Nurse Against Deportation

Join Maria, Alameda Health system healthcare workers, and community leaders this Monday to say ICE out of our communities! Hands off Nurse Maria Mendoza Sanchez and her family.

For over a decade, Maria and her family had been fighting to receive asylum and to be granted the right to live permanently in the country, but because of our broken immigration system she and her family are now being torn apart.

Maria Mendoza Sanchez is a nurse at Highland Hospital. She owns a home in Oakland with her husband where they’ve raised their four children.

In May Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) knocked on her door and told her she, her husband, and one of her children are to be deported.

ICE is terrorizing our communities by tearing families apart, including Maria’s. They’re targeting our co-workers and our neighbors.

Maria is requesting that she and her family be allowed to stay long enough to see one of her daughters graduate college, a request that has been cruelly denied by ICE.
