There's all this buzz and chatter . . . and action . . . in San Francisco having to do with social justice, but there's no coherent, unifying interpretation of social injustice much less a schema provided as an antidote, except for the marxist dialectic, and the marxist line of social philosophy objects both to seriously considering transcendent spiritual possibilities and private property on any scale above your toothbrush. What's a teenager (including those older ones entering City College) to make of civilization and their supposed mentors?
We of The Commons SF cordially invite you to come along on our Saturday morning walking tour surveying Bay Region social movements while at the same time presenting a social philosophy rooted in the simple premise that "the Earth is the birthright of all people."
The perspective is as old as written language, buried in the humanist elements of world scriptures, and just downright common-sensical. It's marvelously spelled out in the text Progress & Poverty, written by a 19th century San Franciscan.
If you're keen on exploring the causes of poverty, displacement, low wages, cumbersome politics, and such; and interested too in hearing a proposal for how to resolve huge pieces of these social challenges, we encourage you to make time for this FREE walking tour. Bring a friend, a parent, a classmate, if you wish.
At minimum, you'll be equipped with fresh ideas capable of unsettling your elders! At best, you'll discover a lifetime's spiritual and intellectual recreation.
