CFST will host this forum on June 3rd at 10:30am at the Resource Center for Nonviolence, 612 Ocean St. in Santa Cruz and on June 17 in Watsonville. The purpose of this forum is to boost support for preserving the option of transit on the rail line. The Trail-Now group is spending loads of money to try to get the County Regional Transportation Commission to pull out the tracks on the Santa Cruz County Coastal Rail Corridor and build a "world class" bicycle and pedestrian trail only. The Campaign for Sensible Transportation agrees with the County Regional Transportation Commission that the corridor should include public transit as well as a bicycle and pedestrian trail. The question to be determined is what kind of public transit.
The topics will include consideration of train with trail, busway with trail, and a little about autonomous buses.
Bruce Sawhill will speak about commuter trains on the corridor.
Stanley Sokolow will speak about bus rapid transit and autonomous buses.
