March Against Monsanto
Location Details:
San Lorenzo Park, Santa Cruz
Let's show our support for SAFE, ORGANIC food production and land management in Santa Cruz! Too many people are using "weed" (and LIFE) killer Roundup and other toxic pesticides in our neighborhoods, which inevitably end up in our fragile, world-renowned environment, poisoning our pollinators, wildlife, children and US.
Do you want to protect the redwoods, the bay, and our community's health? THIS is the event for you! It is very family-friendly, so bring your children :)
Meet up at San Lorenzo Park downtown (grassy area between duck pond and playground) to make signs, network, and prepare chants for the march. We will start marching at 1:00.
Here is our route:
San Lorenzo Park to Pedestrian Bridge. Cross Pedestrian Bridge. Cross River St to Galleria walkway. Take Galleria Walkway to Cooper/Front Street Light. Take Cooper St to Pacific Ave. Turn left on Pacific and travel down to Laurel Street. At stop light, cross Pacific and turn right to travel back up Pacific Ave. Take Pacific to Water Street
Ending Location: Town Clock
VOLUNTEERS:
* MEDIA EXPOSURE: Anyone with connections to local media outlets please contact Eleyah Knight (eleyahk [at] gmail.com) or feel free to just post this event wherever you can (respectfully, of course). Email or PM if you can pass out or post pre-made fliers!
*ORGANIC BUSINESSES: Do you have or know of an organic business that may want to participate? This event is a great opportunity for them to hand out free samples at the clock tower (where the march ends) and march with us to show that their business cares for the health of our community!
*SPEAK UP!: We need someone to loan a Mega Phone to spread our message effectively to all who are in the area we are marching.
*GET CREATIVE!: Poster board, markers, sign making materials, and of course, COSTUMES!
*SAFETY: We need 5 crossing guards to wear neon yellow vests (provided) to safely escort the group through the 5 intersection points we will be encountering. This can be established at the meet up place.
Tell our neighbors, businesses, and friends
that spraying Roundup has to end!
Protect life's natural ways
Keep GMO's out of our DNA!
