Spanning the Western Hemisphere, bringing together both traditional and contemporary artists whose visions take us on a journey through their eyes and hands, First Peoples takes us into the world of the original inhabitants of this land.
Carefully curated to present a well rounded spectrum of art and experience, First Peoples is both vibrant and vital. It is a window and a doorway into the meaning of being indigenous, native, Indian...it explores both spirit and stereotype, ancient traditions and modern struggle.
Critics have described this show as important, and that is an accurate portrayal. 31 artists share their skills and their souls in the sprawling gallery; some pieces are not only works of art, but historically significant. Every piece within the show touches upon an aspect of the cultural and spiritual realm of tribal people.
Beautiful, powerful, symbolic and thought-provoking, First Peoples is a show rooted in ancient tradition and brought to the cutting edge, invigorated and strengthened by today's environmental and human rights injustices. Riveting, raw and real, First Peoples is a critical collection of work.
